One week after the 8.4$ billion Paramount Skydance merger closed, CEO David Ellison and his top executives announced their plans for Paramount’s future. „One of our biggest priorities is restoring Paramount as the No. 1 destination for the most talented artists and filmmakers in the world” said Ellison. To fulfill these expectations, Paramount aims for 15 theatrical films a year, followed by 20 in the near future, while streaming releases are not prioritized.

For building their future slate of theatrical releases, Paramount focuses on family movies for all moviegoers, franchises, both R-rated comedies and horror as well as originals. The latter is seen in Paramount’s acquisition of the James Mangold, Timothée Chalamet film High Side, which is described as Heat meets Hell or High Water.

Regarding franchises: Star Trek, Transformers, World War Z – the 2013 Brad Pitt zombie feature – and a sequel to the highly successful Top Gun: Maverick were name dropped as priorities. On the Paramount+ side of things, Ellison intends to continue the collaboration with Taylor Sheridan, creator of the Yellowstone universe, who proved to be vital for the streaming service.
