As Deadline reported, the filmmaker behind The Wild Robot Chris Sanders confirmed that DreamWorks Animation is devolping a sequel to the heart-felt animated flick. This news follows the success of The Wild Robot’s theatrical run just two weeks after its release. The movie has already surpassed its production budget of $78 million, raking in approximately $149 million at the global box office.

Universal has set The Wild Robot’s digital release date for today, October 15. The movie will be available for Blu-ray and Ultra 4K HD DVD on December 3. With today’s release for VoD-services, the animated adventure only had three weeks of cinema exclusivity, which could hurt its box office success in the long run. As a sequel has already been announced, fans won’t have to worry about the financial performance hurting a potential new installment.
