Following a report from the Hollywood Reporter, the Emmy winner will star as the most well known member of the Green Lantern Corps. Chandler won his Emmy for his role as Coach Eric Taylor in the popular NBC aired show Friday Night Lights. Before Kyle Chandler took on the part, Thanos actor Josh Brolin had been in talks to reprise the role of the legendary Hal Jordan, before he declined.

The HBO show will follow an older Hal Jordan reluctantly mentoring a young John Stewart as the „two intergalactic cops are drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American-heartland“. The actor portraying John Stewart has not been officially revealed yet. The show – described as having a True Detective vibe – is coming from Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King.
