While there aren’t many details at the moment, here is what is known: Pocketpair is accused of infringing „multiple patent rights“. Nintendo seeks an injunction against this infringement and compensation for damages.

Palworld’s developer published a statement saying it „will begin the appropriate legal proceedings and investigations into the claims of patent infringement.“

Even before the game’s release many people called out similarities to Pokémon. The „Pokémon with guns“ – as many people dubbed it – made headlines for its monster design and concept: combining survival mechanics with hunting the game’s little monsters, the Pals. People seemed to take an interest in these ingredients, since Palworld sold more than 30 million copies in the first couple of weeks. Now, nearly eight months after its release, Palworld averages on a concurrent player count of around 30 thousand players on Steam.
